There were no horses available to take the engine.to the scene and consequently the firemen had to drag it to the fire. # As soon as possible the hose was laid on from a pump m Stanlpy Street and taken across the street to.^the burning factory, but there , was insufficient hose owing to the diataricej In consequence the lire crossed the street and ignited ihe Btackedlitimber which' was speedily m a sheet of flame. The firemen did al m their power with the resources at hand, and succeeded m keeping the fire within the limits of the factory and timber yard-, allowing- it to burn itself out. The offices of the Company were saved owing to' the direction of the wind, but the iwhole stabling accom- ■ modation and residences of carters who lived there were burned.
