Messrs Ash, of Newcastle, lose hravilv by the late fire, being insured for only £2000, Dwight, a stonemason j who was run ovet by a steam motor, has been awarded £1500 compensation. Th? A case of highway robbery, followed hy a clever capture of the thieves, occurred on Saturday. Mr Topham, of the firm of Topham, Angus, and Sruilb, contractors, was driving near the JNepean Power, when two masked men stuck up 'ho buspy, presented a revolver, took Topham and the groom and bound them blind bide' to Ja tree, and cleared ont with £1450 which Topham had to pay the men with on the waterworks con. tract. Topham succeeded m freeing himself and the groom, and gave information to the police, who arrested the men m the town the same evening with che whole of the money m their possession. Both have been coramitted for trial In the Presbytery on Tuesday, the Rev. Mr Wilson called attention to the action of the Rev* C. Strong as regards the Sunday question. An animated debate ensued, the Press being excluded. Ultimately a motion regretting the stand taken by Mr Strong was adopted.
