Tn the House recently the hon. Mr Johnston, replying to Mr Postleth-* WAITE as to planting trees adjacent to railway lines that would be useful for railway purposes, said this involved a question of the highest importance. Largo planta .ions of blue-gams had been made, which would m future be ustful for. sleepers, and other trees had been planted with a view to tuture revenue. The present high cost for maintenance of railways was largely due to the non-durahility of native timber.
