A Regular Jumble.
A most extraordinary " jumble" of supposed particulars regarding the death of the late Professor Walker, of the Auckland University, appears to have reached England. The deceased, it ©lay be remembered, was drowned wfep boating m Auckland harbour, xfee^ European Kail, however, puts the cir» cumstances m the following shape :— " News has baen received at Durham that Professor Walker, son of Mr George Walker, printer, Sabler-street, Durham, while on a voyage to .New Zealand, has sustained an accident from a portion of the machinery of toe ship he was m falling upon him, which had terminated a life full ot promise* Mr Walker was Second Wrangler m a large competition m the Classioal Tripos at Cambridge University, where he matriculated, and about s«x months ago he accepted a professorship m the Uni« veroity of Auckland, New Zealand. He was on his voyage to the Antipodes to take up this appointment when the breakage of an engine crank, which fell upon him, killed him. Mr Walker wbs about 30 years of age, and was widely known and respected m Dur* ham, his native place, where the news of his sad end was received with great sorrow."
