The Patea Mail publishes a notice that would be equally applicable to some longwinded subscribers m Manawalu . It is a9 follows : — " There are number of subsribers who hare paid nothing for the last nine months. We cannot afford to supply them on the same terms any longer, therefore we give them a week to pay their amounts due. If not paid by that time, we shall understand that they wish to discontinue the paper, and shall act accordingly." The death is announced of Mr. W. H. Brown, who arrived m Wellington m the year 1840 by the ship Adelaide, the vessel m which Mr. T. M'Kenzie and a number of other old settlers came out to the colony. Deceased leaves a large grown-up family, and was mnch respected by all who knew him. In the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Mr. C. J. Johnston presented a petition , signed by 252 Catholic residents at Thorndon pray m 2 for justice to Roman Catholics m the matter of education. Colonel Brett presented a similar petition m the Legislative Council signed by 247 Catholics of Wellington.
