ON A DOG'S DEATH;.
[By Balaam's Ass.] ■ (Air — Sailor's Grave.) • No dorg to love, none to karess, how can I e»er.my sadness express 1 Chunck is defunct, ded as a nale — hushed is his barkin', and still is his tale. Oh, such a tale, white on the end ; ophfc did he chase it with waggle and bend ; chase it with hope, twisting around, till overcome he reposer! on the ground . Now he's extinct, ded as a nate, wbere am his bark and the wag of his tale ? In dreams alone poor Chunck I see, swigging bis milk or scratching a flea. -Tis , but a dream ; waking I weep, for under ' two foot of ground does he sleep. <>, beautiful pup, wince full of pla, haven't I fed you day after day. Given you milk, given you bread, given you many a pat on the head ! Now you're extinct, ded as a nale, where am the bark and the wag of his tale ! No dorg to love, none to karess, vainly I strive the tears I to repress. " Why did you die ? " sadly I moan ; " was it from pizen or swall"rin' a bone."
