NEW BILLS.
Impounding (Hon. Mr Dick). — This Bill is a reprint for the most part, ol ! the Bill as passed by the Legislative Council and a Select Committee of the House of Representatives m 1880. The [ Bill is a most important one, affecting 1 as it does m a large measure the law of [ trespass. No occupier of unfeneed land i cao. claim damages for trespass of cattle, but occupiers of fenced land may sue for trespass rates, as defined m the first schedule, or actual damages. Should pigs or goats trespass a second time within three months double trespass rates may be charged. The occupier of land under artificial or under cultivation may destroy pigs, goats, or poultry trespassing- thereon, provided that he within 21 hours send notice to their owner that he has done so. All unbranded cattle above six months old, or apparently so, shall be Crown property. No person impoundiug cattle shall be liable for pound lees. jMo cattle shall b 8 driven off land not m the occupation of the person driving them without 24 hours' notice haying been | first gi»en % but nothing m this section I is to affect the provisions of any Sheep Act.
