Volunteer Intelligence.

An inspection parade of the Palmerston Rifles took place m the new drillshed, last night. S^me 33 men all told were m attendance, while others were excused. Major Btapp put the men through two hours heavy drill, giving them particular instructions m skirmishing. At the conclusion he stated that Falmerston could boast of as well behaved, and on the whole as well disciplined a company as could be found on the West Coast, impressing on the men the necessity of paying regular attention to drill. When the men where dismissed, Captain Marsh called for three cheers for Lieutenant Carrol, through whose energy and liberality, the Company became the possessors of so fine a drill«shed, and for the formation of a band, to vrhon? cheers were also given .
