|R)Bti]: - At the inteifiew to-Bay betwen a deputation consisting of toemrierß^Ahe Chamber of Commerce , and. others a_d the Minister of "Public" Wrks, Mr T. K. Macdonaid said^there was; a Bnb•idiary matter which the deputation wished to bring under the notice of the Gorernment, and that was '-the ekrly commencement of the fline, between Palmerston and Woodville. A lettei appeared the other day m one of the country papers addressed by Mr Johnston, he believed, to one of his conftituents, m which Mr Johnston Baid ; the Gorernment proposed to begin tb»t at an early date. The deputation wopld like to hare an assurance on this point, also some indication ot when the Govern ment proposed to do it. Mr Jobnson was, of course, aware that .£200,000 bad been voted last session, which was to be allocated m a certain way, the schedule having been altered to that effect. Mr Johnßton. said there was a certam amount on the schedule for the railway from Master fon, but there was no distribution of the amount m the schedule. Mr James Wallace Biid he believed it was . understood _ that the schedule was to hare'been altered, acd that the distribution: would ; be; to the eflect of allocating half to the line from the Gorge end to Bunnylhorpe and half to the line from the Mastarton end. At least so it had been represented to him by several gentlemen, including M r Levin and Mr Sutchison, who said they had made a representation to the Government, and the original intention of the Government was altered m the way he had indioated. Mr Johnston'— Not that lam aware of. lhe matter then dropped. , . ' '
