Tawhiao's Tour.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) • Tatjranoa, May 29, ; The Bay of Plenty : Times reports that Tawhiao arrived at Kangawoe with 200 Waikatos on the 27th, and two strong bodies of !auranga ' natives numbering 300, and many women. These commenced a reception ma semi-military fashion advancing, saluting, an! retiring m alternate order for about half a mile m regular Maori haka style. The "kins?" entered the tillage on the east side, where.the natives have erected a memorial to Tkwhiap's late uncle, Hori Tap^e. The reception inside the enclosure w.ts v ry i-npressive, the " kiug'' weeping, and widows lamenting and wailing. After the ceremony^ the Waikatos aJ- ; dressed > ' : i ' the assembly. Tawhiao followed, 1 and ! tne ; Tatiranga chiefs re.nliedv v: : Great ceremony was observed, but was brought to an end by heavy raiii. Tawhiao was clothed m a red hunting- coat, with a mat over his shoulders; and a white sheet round hia 7 loins. His legs aud feet were bare, and he was bareheaded.' The '• kinj?" seems : poor.
