(united pbess association.) Fbathb ston, May 29. '■ Tolly was again brought up this morning before Mr Waidell, B.M. to answer the c arge of arsnn. Henry Johnson, the mail-cart driver,' gave evidence that he saw a man, whom he believed to be Tolly, pas i the kitchen window when a very bright light shone, an I enter the covered passage at the main building as witness approached the hotel. When witness drove up, Tolly was on the verandah. Edward Buckeridge, late lessee ot the burnt premises, was subjected to a seve c examination by the prosecution the object being to show that the hotel had, just before the fire, been depleted of furniture and stock .and consequently he would benefit' by the destruction . of the. place." A large number of witnesses have still to be examined, and it is doubtful if the case . will conclude to'nighV Later. The Tolly arson case has bee < adjourned till to-morrow, ( pending the arrival of certain witnesses from Wellington, who are expected to materially support the case lor the. prosecution.
