Colonel Sterling, of :: the Odldstream Guards, had a narrow escapß at the attack on Tel-el-Kebir. He was looking through his glaaea when a ballet struckjhis hand, taking off one of his fingers; passing downward, the ballet struck the Golenel?s revolver, Which he had brought round m front. Had not the revolver been there Colonel Sterling would certainly have been killed. Private intelligence received, from New Plymouth (says the Post) states that' Sir. Morgan Oarkeak, of Otaki, surveyor, who who has been engaged m the survey of Kawbia, ia 'missing. < Search parties ward out looking for him, bat were unabiejto find any traces of him. Mr. Carkeek is well known m this district, and his friends will be glad to hear of hii safety, ' ■ _
