The Porte has appointed a Commission to inaugurate* reforms throughout the Empire. ; , In consequence of. evidence recently obtained m connection with the inquiry into other crimes, the Irish .police have arrested, seven men on "a charge; of having been concerned m the murder of Mrs Henry J. Smythe, who was shoe dead near Barbavilla House, County Westmeath, on 2nd April, 1882, while driving home from church m a carriage, m company with Mr Barlow Symthe, her brother-in-law, and Lady Henrietta Monck. The actual murderers were at the time reported to be three men, and they fired point blank at the carriage. It was believed the death ot Mr Barlow Smythe was aimed at. Several arrests were made at the time, but no conclur tiva evidence was obtainable. ; London, May 20.
