The Wesleyan Concert.

As we anticipated, the Wesleyan Concert last evening passed off mo-t successfully. The attendance was fully eqnal to expectations, the body of the building being well filled ; among the audience being a fair representation from other churches. We have not space to attempb to refer to the pro* gramme m detail, bnt may say that the manner of its execution left nothing to be desired. The overture was partic- I ularly. well played by Miss Mowlem, who noost efficiently acted as organist. The various selections by th« chor were rendered with faultless precisic ; and too Riuch credit cannot be accorded to Mr- Hartley, the choir-mastr, for the really .capital style m which every item was executed. As a conductor, Mr Hartley gained laurels last evening, his quiet, unassuming style quite taking with the . audience, and giving courage to an? nervous member of the choir. 'I be tim«> throughout was perfect, and th« expression most correct. The solos were well given m every case, each item being received by the audience with demonstrations of favour. As pianiste, Mrs Carty displayed special ski 1 m her execution, and listening to her tasteful mani ulation was a genuine treat. We must say that a specially pleasing feature waa the hearty spirit of accord shewn by several ladies and gentlemen from other congregations, notably Mr and Mrs Watsdn and ' Mrs Keeling, whose assistance was "simply invaluable, and was rendered with a spontaneous readiness that made it all [ the more acceptable. We congratulate the Wesleyan body on the complete success which attended the concert, which is due fee-the excellent arrangements, and to the hearty co-operation of the promoters, of ih se who fcook part, and mow particularly to the untiring efforts of the choir-master. The concert will long be remembered as one of the most successful and pleasant musical gatherings I which have been held m Palmerston.
