OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL.

(TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD.) Sir, — In reference to your article of yedterdsy, inav I ask, do the Committee over visit the school during school hou s ? 1 never see any report they make, which induces me to make the inquiry. I think the reorganization you suggest would do good m many ways. The working of the school is not satisfactory, to my knowledge, to many parents. For a school., like. ..tho.. Palraerston school, we should have a really able head»masfcer, with very large experience. I do not think our prej sent head-master's health js ; equal to bis duties. lam sure many parents would willingly pay if they could see that their children were making head-way, insteadjjof as they say, wasting their titne, week after week,, and month after month. I write put of no feeling towards our head-master, except that I do honestly think a change would be beneficial to-the school, and I miy say, also j to himself. It was certainly a mistake to confine the children of a large school district to one school. Before long another must be opened a :>: nowhere about Terrace End. _ The teacher's emoluments may be adde ! to by a large attendance, but thp efficiency of-th* school must be effected, and that is what wo parents have to think about. But is it not time Palmeratpn ,had ,a High School ? Why not convert bur present Public School into a High school, with an efficient staff of teachers, and build another Public School m a more suitable place than the present building. I hope the day is not far off when Palmerston will have a High ■School. As the centre of a great district, a better situation could ,nj)i be found.— J am <fee, '1[ : 1( : , , ■
