Boating Accident.
An accident by which three men were nearly losing their lives occurred alongside the British Qaeen while she was lying at the Quarantine Station on Sunday night. A boat, manned from the shop of Messrs Wood, Crosbie, <irid Co., the well- known, butchers, put off to her with a quantity of fresh provi* sions. Although a hard southerly gale was blowing, they got safely to the ship at about 8.30 p.m., ' and a quantity of meat had already been hauled aboard, when the boat was swamped by a high sea, the men being left floating in. the water. A lamp-trimmer on the steamer immediately jumped overboard with a line, and 7 supported one of them in such a position that he could not drown, and' the officer in charge as quickly gave orders to lower a boat, which was~f6ttunately in readiness, and all wer^e thus rescued. One of them was in a very exhausted condition 1 when . he was brought aboard, and had it not been for the prompt attention of! Dr Hazzsrd, it is v«ry doubtful whether he would have recovered. The boat turned turtle; and was [licked up on the beach = at Petone uext morning. ' V
