Mr J. O'Kelly, M.P., asked had the Government of Holland renounced its claims upon New Guinea, and the ' question was not answered. ! The Due .D'Aumale is seriously ill. i It has been now determined that, if Mr Bradlarjgh again, attempts m any way to enter the House of Commons, he shall be expelled the precincts. It is probable he will resign his seat. The Affirmation Bill was not made m any way a Ministerial question, and the de--1 feat ot the Government upon it is not 1 therefore regarded as a question ot coni fldence. The majority against it re- ; suited from tH«» knowledge that even it the Bill passed m the Lower House, the Lords would reject it. The question will now be deferred till after the next general election. Lord Northbiook has stated that the Admiralty haa already adopted some ol the suggestions made by the recent I Commission on Colonial defences, and he and Lord Carnarvon eulogised the public spirit displayed by the colonies m providing as they had done for their own defence. Baron de L?sseps asserts that it ■ would be impossible to forma second canol across the Isthmus o l ' Suez.
