STARTLING DISCLOSURE?. One of the most extraordinary disclosures (reports the A l . Bendigo Advertiser") was-made at the .Eaglehawk police court, m the presence of a large number of spectators * It occurred m a case Jane Smith against' Crispin Smith, ''for leaving his wife without means of 'support; The complainant, Vfh.o was deaf, got into the witoess-box, and to all outward appearances was a yery respectable woman of about sixty years of age. Her husband w&3 also respectably dressed; The witoess addressed the mag^strate"laß follows :— "The reason I left my; husband was because he used to.rob the company he waßj jf orkmg : for. .. He ■ used :to brin» home small cakes of gold, turkeys, and other things I'Tmew he did "not become possessed of honesty. I have found gold buried m the fowl»hcuse, and one time .I.topJc it put of the fpwfchouse. There "; yrere always small, cakes of gold there, : and he utfe^: to plant some m the hen's nest and underneath. I often remonstiated with him ; but I did not tell the company. Xdidn't wish to expof c his good: family, r I didn't tell the police but went away from him. I an* unable to: maintain myself for I am now sixty years of age. , I will not go back, . ;b«causej jay: life is m danger. I have every reason to believe he is carrying on with his niece, who has just arrived from the old country. One*day I saw her coming dRt of his room } and when asked her /what . she meant the niece replied* that- ihy -husband had kmsed her, and told htr never to mind me. I never had any peace with hi m ; he abused me aiidwanteti me to give up my marriageliCertificate. I would not, and he Snatched at a valuable deed. I bad j but did not get it. Constable O'Brien: The woman is very respectable your Worships.' : The case was then adjourned to the 21st inst. The strange evidence given by the woman caused quite r ia ! sensation m court, and from ter manner ia addressing the ißench the opinion was, that there is some truth ■ m her statements. .
