LIQUOR PROHIBITION.

The question of prohibiting the use of strong drink is being rapidly agitated m 1 America. On a recent occasion Judge Clarke-, of, the Superior Court, Georgia, said ; "I have, lived m Terrell County . twenty^five .. years, - and twenty-three years ot that time have filled tne office, of Clerk, of the Superior Court, and am quite familiar with the affairs of the county, as well as the sentiments of the people. I am no liquor man m any sense of the word. I am not only opposed to the sale of liquor m Terrell County, but would rejoice to sea a universal prohibition, law for the whole state, At least 29 cases out of 100 have been traceable directly; or indirecilv to the effects of liquor, and, m my judgment, should the sale of liquor be prohibited m Terrell, it wou'd save the county thousands of dollars. The amount Bayed to the people m the reduction of taxation by the diminution of crime would far outweigh the insignificant sum derived from the sale of licenses to peddle liquor," It is the.

opinion of many that before many years prohibition w:li be the order of the day m the United States, acd the Judge adds : " The growth of sentiment upon, this subject within the last few years has been phenomenal. More than one third of the counties m the State hay« prohibited the sale of liqaor already, and I doubt not but what the legislature will, at its summer, session, pass -a law prohibiting the. sale .of it all over the State. A people so. intelligent; and refined as the American people can no longer submit to it, and I "Believe the day is not far distant when all Europe as well as America will declare on pro« hibition/' . „ .
