As Others See Us.
[Yeoman Reporter.] Palmerston has been acknowledged by commercial men, when other places are usually dull, to be the best township on the coast from a business point of view, and the advance it has been making; for sometime past has been noticeable week by week, 9/|The demand for land round Falmerston has been active, and men of means have been taking up sections everywhere. The result is thai; m clearing this land there has been a large expenditure, and the introduction as ib , were of foreign capital has done much to make Palmers ton what ib is. Money has been plentiful and trade bnak, but now it seems that this flourishing township is about to partake of the experiences of tbe others, and to suffer a dullness, if not a similar stagnation m trade. There is likely to be little bush -.felling on a large scale this season, and although dealing goes on steadily on a small scale, it is not such as is . likely to materially affect trade. Of conrse, there is the fact of the West Coast rail- ' way works going on within a short distance of Palmerston, whence supplies will mainly be drawn, and this m a 1 measure may help to stave off any threatened stagnation. : New. buildings ' have, however, been steadily addfed, and there is no question of - the continued growth .of the town m this respect. The railway station is about to be extended to give increased accommodation, and two additional lines of rails will be laid for shunting purposes. The people of Falmerston are not lacking m enterprise, and notwithstanding the fear of an impending crisis, it will not be for lack iof energy on their part that such an undesirable result will come to pass. Tbey will do their best to meet it when it should come, and it can only be hoped that the winter season, will pass over with little cause for complaint.
