WOOL EXPORT.
Referring to the increased export of wool from Wellington, a local paper writes as follows : — Although it was generally knew a that the export oi wool from the Port of Wellington for the season which has now closed has been heavier than usual, few commercial men are likely to have anticipated so
large an increase as that which has actually taken place. Taking the two half-years ending the 31st March, 1882 and 1883, which completely cover the shearing season, we find that the follow- -j ing are the comparative quantities and values exported : — Half-year ending March 31s , 1863~Grea3y, 12,281,8941 b, value £466,735; scoured, 644,6341 b, £40,155 ; washed, I,ooo* Clllb, £60,879; total," 13,927,1391 b, of the value of £565,769. Half-year ending 31st March, 1882— Greasy, 9 r 890,4141b, value £378,040 ; scoure I, 565,1201 b, £33,405 i washed, 1,336---1871 b, £81,825 ; total, 11,791,7211 b, ot the value of £493,270. This gives a net increase m quantity of 2,135,4181 b, and m value of £72,499. This is certainly not a small addition to the income of the Cook Straits districts, and it is satisfactory to know that it- is m a great measure due to the abatement of the rabbit nuisance, and therefore not likely to prove merely of a temporary nature.
