THE COUNTY CLERK IN REPLY.
(TO THE EDITOR OB" THE STANDARD.) Sir, — In the Manawatu Times of Saturday's date I notice a paragraph having reference to myself, m my capacity of Rr.te Collector to the Manawatu County Council, which is no more or le.«s than a base ialsehood, without even the slightest colouring of tmth. In order to give you some idea of its incorrectness Igivepsrticuiarsasfollow : — I had for that Court day thirteen persons summoned — three were absent tees, six were residents m different -ridings m the County, and four were residents m the town of Fnxton and personal frienris of the Chairman ; or, to use the phrase of the editor of the Manawatu Times, " persons who consult him medicinally." Further, I most solemnly declare that the Chairman was, until this morning, absolutely m ignorance as to whom I had summoned . ,Now, fcir, this surely throwa another light on the matter, and shows readers of that journal what reliance may be placed upon anything that may appear m its columns, whose daily statements are devoid of tmth, and bristling with venom and low abuse.— l am, <kc, Joun McCulloch', Rate Collector. Foxton, April 9.
