A Defaulter.
An absconder, naned Donald Smith Peddie, who is reported to have forged and uttered to the extent of about £1 5,000 on several Edinburgh houses, is supposed to have made his way to the colonies, is wanted by the Edinburgh polic. A letter 'in his handwriting, and purporting to have been written from Sydney, togetherwith a likeness of the individual, has been forwarded to the Victorian Detective Department, the intimation also being made that a reward of £100 for his apprehension will be given. Peddie, who is an aged man, disappeared from fcJdiubugh about June last. The description given of him is peculiar, and should, if reliable, lead to his discovery. He is described as being five feet eight inches m height, slender, sallow, one shoulder hiy;her than the other, bandy-legged, slouching gait, furtive look, reserved manner and Scotch accent, neck twisted, aud leans forward. Communications as to absconder should be made to the Pro-curator-Fiscal of the City Chambers, Edinburgh, or the chief constable.
