(BY TELEGRAPH.) [UNITED PRESS *SSOCrATICN.J Nelson, March 16. The session of the Diocesan Sjnod has now- closed. The resolutions of most general interest passed during the session were as follows : — A motion by Mr M, AndrAws, seconded by the Rev. J. P. Kempthrone, and carried unani~ mously, " That m order to strengthen the bands of the Clergy iv) refusing. to marry a deceased wife'c sister to her brother-in-law, the General Synod be requested to re- affirm that sucb marriages are expressly forbidden by the law of the Church of England m accordance with the teachings of Holy Scripture." It was also agreed, " That the General Synod be respectfully requested to petition both Houses of the Legislature to adopt some measure whereby the Holy Scriptures may be introduced into the State schools with* out violating the rights of conscience, similarly to the principle obtaining m this matter m the Board schools m England."
