The Native Minister.
. i ■ — ' ' ' y -'■ ■ ■ The correspondent of an exchange thus writes m reference to the action of Mr Bryce i as to how the people of Wanganui should welcome the great sham Tawhiao, King of. the Maoris. "The Czar of all the Russians would not have done more m the matter than Mr Bryce -haft;)-: The cringing cowardly spirit exhibited by the Mayor ot Wan ganui m lowering his dignitj and independence of his office is contemptible, and affects the honor of his fellow burgesses. Mr Bryce has said a good deal about honesty and independence; but he evidently does not like to see these qualities exhibited (at least on some occasions) by others. Mr Bryce is not a sound politician. His actions altogether are incongrouous and irreconcilable. He iB doing his level best to break up the once popular but now discarded Volunteer movement. The wonder is to me that any one should be found to serve under the new regulations."
