Auckland, Feb. 5. Gulliver, late secretary of the Pon» sonby district, now united with the city, was engaged by the City Council to collect rates m the Ponsonby Ward. The pocket book has sinee -been recovered with only £43. Some excitement has been / caused here by the exhibition of several diamonds and garnets, stated to have been found four miles from Auckland by Mr Shakespeare. Mr Courtney and other experts are of opinion, that they are from the Kimberley diamond fields m South Africa, but Mr Shakespeare denies this ; he says he has sent some to England.
