THE LAND MANIA.
An coresident of Dunedin, now m New South Wales, writes as follows to !an Otago friend; — "Business m Sydney still keeps brisk, but I fancy v re-action will set m by-and-by. Money is getting tight already, and '■> m my opinion tfape has been over-specnlation m labd. Nothing but sales of land and townships from Monday till Saturday, and I'm sure many a loafer has a good day's sport at the oost of the rendor. In,' the majority of suburban sales you are carried by coach to the land of promise,
you are provided with a free luncheon, and to aid digestion a band is engaged to play at intervals. You meet m George-street five or six omnibuses laden with pc pie, and a band on lop. of the first one, banner* waving, and drums beating. The impression a , stranger arrives at is that a picnic arty is passing, andheis surprised to learn the. nature of the turn-out. Mecha* nics' wages are very high, and so long as they remain so money will circulate 'freely."
