An intending tenderer for the work of widening the A w ipuni~Drai&, called it oar office this morning, and asked us it' we cou!3 r inform, him v where^the plans and Bpeciad'ations'fbr^heWort^buld be seen m Palmerston . We referred to the advertisement m the Standard, and found therein it wet stated that " plans and specifications' Jmpj; be seen ft the County Office, Foxton, and at the office of tbe overseer, Charles Bray, Feilding/' Therefore, an intending tenderer from this district muat go to the expense, an<jl Waste a day, m a journey either to Feilding or Foxton, m order to obtaip perusal of the plans and specifications of a work to be tendered for within a few mi'es of Palmerston! Surely, this arfangeroent:^<mgt^Sj^t aWJjbaifrd, unless it is desired that only Foxton or Feilding contractors shall have»a chanoe of tendering for tho job. Really, it looks rery {ike it. - y .Mqsfc undoubtedly,, copies of^lins ajird specfificaljidla of~| .work clo»e-to Palmerston, an<f advertise* inia Palmeraton newspaper, should have been Idffpßi^ini.so^pice^asily accessible to Palnierston contractors. It is fair neither to our local working men, ni>«fo the County Coanoil, which body might find it materially to their pecuniary advantage, to obtain local tenders, as being most probably more reasonable^ thanclhosW iai '<» bailee. j it ; th'J errbr was unintentional, such remissnesß jis scarcely excusable on the part of the Council's overseer. If the instructions .were^iffin by direction of tbe Couijty Council, or any Committee of that body, it is difficult to reconcile such actijon with a desire to deal fairly. On behalf of these who are thus 'deprired of lan jppprtumty p^ tßiirdeHngrfajf i".^orTc' :in i tne'djs:ri<jt,"'we protest asain's^ such a cnslom being pprpetoated.
