In revenge apparently, the latter waited till the other workmen had gone to dinner, and then struck Mr Bruce on the head several times with a sixteon-inch horse rasp. He was ren» dored unconscious, and now lies m considerable danger. The police are endeavoring to find the man, whose name is Armstrong. A.UOKLA.ND, Jan. 31. The mail steamer Zealandia carred £11,653 m specie for San .Francisco, also 147 packages opium valued at £12,000.. The Wealeyan conference representatives are now leaving for their southern homes. Carteton, Jan. 31. Sir W, Stuart Forbes was thrown from his horse this morning, dislocated his collar-bone, and broke his arm. Wellington, Jan. 31. At the inquest yesterday on the bodies of the lad Pearce, killed at Pahautanui by a throw from his horse, and the man McMahon, who has been missing since the 22nd instant, the verdicts were, m the first case, accidental death, and m the latter, found drowned. The Governor was entertained at a dinner m the Wellington Club last night, 70 members being present. Those present included the Bishop of Wellington, Hon W. Johnston, Major Atkinsou, Sir Jamas Prendergast, Hon J. Johnston, and Colonel Pearce. A. de B. Brandon, President of the Ciub, presided.

The Longhursfc case was considered by the Government this morning, and everything is now ready to be submitted for His Excellency's decision.
