ASPERSING THE ABSENT.
j (to the editor op- the standabd.)
Sir, — T did not like to see a para™ graph m last night* Times containing some sneering, spitef-jl allusion to the Rev. Mr Wilson's private affairs. Is this th<» way ministers or ex-ministers write of thflir cloth who happen to become involved. May I ask is this the firpt time that" a yout ful clerk m holy frdeis" ever got into trouble, and was bothered with pressing requests for money that it wns found inconvenient to pay on demand. I have heard of another case somewhat similar, which occurrpd onca upon a time, on board a certain steamer, which brought much humiliation though very little sympathy^ How would this little narrative tell just now? We are all liable \p err, and those who hnve been through the fire, should not gloat over another's down* fall, forgetting their own experiences m timMS gone by. Are these the teachings of Christian charity that some people used to preach, and pretend still to practice. I should strongly advise this venomous writer to let sleeping does lie, — 1 am &c, One who was there. Palmerston* January 31sfc,
