The strike among the employes engaged on the Caledonian railway has impeded the traffic, and in consequence several colleries and factories have stopped working. Granier Cassagnac disclaims any knowledge of the manifesto issued by Prince Jerome, and ridicules the action I taken by him. The Marqnis of Hartington, M.P. tor Lancashire, and Secretary of State for War, in the course of his speech at Manchester last night, stated that th e present Government would never grant lawsmaking autonomy to Ireland, although it was proposed to grant the Irish people certain measures of self* government. ,:,,.,.. At an address delivered at Blackburn, Lord Hartington annonnced that the evacuation ot Egypt by the British forces would take place as soon as a stable government h^d been established, and added that the action of the British Government had received the approval of most of the Powers. Paris, Jan. 21, The report current yesterday regarding an alleged widespread Legitimist ploc, under the leadership of Oharecte, nas been generally pooh-poohed by the French Press, and has received little credence. No arrests have baen made. Berlin, Jan. 21. The. death is announced to-day of Prince Frederick Charles, brother of the Emperor William, born 1801.
