Frozen Meat Export.
[Wellington Paper.] Two hundred carcases of mutton were brought down by train from the yards of the Gear Meat Preserving Company at Petqne shortly before ' 6 o'clock yesterday morning, and immediately put aboard the ship Lady Jocelyn, where they were lowered into the freezing* chamber by means of speciallyprepared and fitted cages; In the chamber mentioned they were pUced on hookß as nearly as possible m the same position as they would have been m a butcher's shop. As soon as this work had been completed, the doors were closed, the refrigerating machinery being imme« \ diately put m motion. At an cany hour this morning the meat will be taken out by the stevedores, put m wrappers, and placed m the main chamber, where it will remain for three days, m order to ascertain whether the freezing has been properly done. Should the result prove satisfactory, the carcases will be stowed away, and a fresh lot will take their place. Consignments equal to about 250 carcases of matton will be sent down from the slaughtering yards daily until the chamber has been filled. The mutton brought down yesterday is of excellent quality, and pronounced by those who ought to know something of these matters to be thoroughly adapted for the English market. The average weight is said to be not more than 601bs. We notice that 106 fat bullocks, the property of Messrs Stevens and Gorton, of Balls, arrived overland m charge of Mr R. Stevens yesterday. These, as well as several other West floast shipments, will be slaughtered at the yards of Meserg Woods, Crosbie, and Co. It is confidently . believed by Messrs Stevens and Gorton t at New Zealand beef will find great favor m the English market.
