Violent Assault.

A few d*ys ago a case of assault was called on for hearing at the Wellington Resident Magistrate's Court, tbe complainant being Mary Ann M e Qregor, and the defendant a man of the name of Brazil ; but as neither party attended the information wag struck out. It subsequently appeared that the prosecutrix had neglected to attend owing to a mistake as to the date, and an application WB3 made for the reinstatement of the case. Enquiries instituted by the police disclose a most brutal assault on the part of Brazil, and the matter has been taken up by them. It appears that the woman, who had bsen living with Brazil m Q win-street, is terribly scalded adont the breast ani shoulders, and is suffering great agony ac the tesult of her companion's illtreatment. The case comes on for hearing on Monday.
