THE ILL-FAT WD TAIURCTA (BY TELEGRAPH). (united press association.) Dunbdin, Jan. 3. Having read the account f the work done by the school-children of Fortrose, m planting flowers and otherwise beautifying the graves of the Tararua victims m the cemetery there, a relative ot onr who is buried there sent £5 to be divided amongst the children. The latter have agreed to treat this as the nucleus of a fund which they ask all tiie State schools m New Zealand to assist them m raising, for the purpose of erecting a monument to those drowned m the Tararua, both m Fort. ros3 Cemetery and m tha Tararua acre at Otara. The children have forwarded one-half the £5 to the Otago Daily Times, and the other half to the Southland News, which newspapers they have atked to receive subscriptions.
