Blenheim, Nov. 26, 18G0. 457 [ADVERTISEMENT, j To the Editor of the Marlborough Press. Sir —As postscript to my letter printed in your issue of the 10th instant, I would add that the conduct of the Bishops of New Zealand and Wellington, Mr. Hadfield (Archdeacon of Kapiti), the members representing the City of Wellington, and others forming the " coterie,” deserves the severest censure that can be passed upon them for opposing his Excellency the Governor’s policy in relation to the war at Taranaki; and moreover, I sincerely hope there will be a general protest from the settlers in New Zealand to the Home Government, expressing their disapproval of the position assumed by the above parties. I for one am bold to write that I do not give those gentlemen credit for honesty of purpose in opposing the Governor and his Ministry; if they are. sincere, in the name of common sense let them go and join WiremuKingi, and resist, by force of arms, what they aver is a wrong. The Superintendent of W prides himself upon being a good shot, and Bishop Sclwyn upon his attainments as a bruiser (boxer). As to the other parties, I know nothing of their capabilities in that line; those who have watched their late proceedings must admit thev arc one and all “shallow politicians.” Yours, &c., F A. Duncan, Of Picton and Wellington. Wairau, November 26, 1860. [ would not pin my faith to such men for all llie world could give me. 463
