PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
FRIDAY, JUNE 1. The Council met at the usual time; the Speaker in the chair. Present: The Speaker, the Superin-' tendent, Messrs. Ward, Baillie, Sinclair, Dodson, and Seymour. The minutes of preceding day were read and confirmed. SUSPENSION OF STANDING ORDER. The Superintendent moved that Standing Order No. 61 be suspended. Mr. Baillie seconded the motion, which was agreed to. NOTICE OF ADJOURNMENT OF COUNCIL. Mr. Godfrey gave notice “ that at the usual adjournment this evening, he should move that the adjournment be until eleven o’clock the following day (Saturday).” He wished the Council to meet on that day because much time had been lost by adjournments, and as the members from the country would no doubt be compelled, by the state of the Aveather, to remain at Blenheim, he thought they might as well spend their time in forwarding the business of the Council. ESTIMATES. The Superintendent moved that the house go into committee on the Estimates; the Speaker in the chair. Mr. Sinclair opposed the motion, as several members were absent/and it might be considered that those present wished to take an undue advantage in a matter of so much importance; though he felt quite certain that such was not' the case, but that the motion was brought forward with the intention of forwarding the business of the Council. . , The Superintendent withdrew his motion. STOCK REGULATION BILL. The house went into committee on the Stock Regulation Bill, which had been read a second time at the previous sitting. On the Council resuming, the Chairman reported the bill with amendments. ESTIMATES, Mr. Ward moved that the Council go into committee on the Estimates. The motion was agreed to, and the Council went into committee accordingly. The Council resumed, and the Chairman reported that no progress had been made. The Council then adjourned until 11 o’clock next day (Saturday). SATURDAY, JUNE 2. The Council met at 11 o’clock; the Speaker in the chair. Present: —The Speaker, the Superintendent, Messrs. Ward, Baillie, Sinclair, Dodson, Seymour, and Godfrey. Minutes of preceding meeting read and confirmed. ESTIMATES. • Mr. Ward moved that the Council go into committee on the Estimates; the Speaker in the chair. The motion was agreed to, and the Council went into committee accordingly. On the Council resuming, the Chairman reported progress. The Council then adjourned until Tuesday, at eleven o’clock. TUESDAY, JUNE 5. Present: The Speaker, the Suporintendent, and Mr. Sinclair. At about half-past eleven, the Speaker adjourned the Council until next day; there not being a quorum present. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6. Present: The Speaker, the Superintendent, Messrs. Ward, Baillie, Eyes, Sinclair, Dodson, Seymour, and Godfrey. Minutes of two preceding sittings read and confirmed. AUCTIONEERS’ LICENSING BILL. Mr. Dodson moved that the Auctioneers’ Licensing Bill be read a second time, which was agreed to. The house then went into committee on the bill; the Speaker in the chair. On the Council resuming, the chairman reported the bill, with amendments. EDUCATION REPEAL BILL. Mr. Baillie moved the third reading of the Education Repeal Bill. Mr. Seymour seconded the motion. Council divided. Ayes—Messrs. Ward, Baillie, Seymour, the Superintendent, and Mr. Godfrey. Noes—Messrs. Eyes, Sinclair, and Dodson. Carried.
The bill was then read a third time, and passed. -•- ••••.• ■>. . ESTIMATES.. The Council again went into committee on the estimates; and on resuming the Chairman reported progress.
