WINDOW DRESSING.

The Wellington correspondent of the W tirarapa Times sa;ys: —Windowdressing is becoming quite an art here, f . id there is much rivalry between Ivirkealdie and Stains and the D.I.C. The latter.firm has engaged an American expert, and tor the last two or three days their largest window has been jealously veiled. On Saturday a wonderful representation of tbe Bmoi- - 3yn Bridge was displayed, reflected in mirrors. It was entirely built of cotton reels, and soldiers,' tramcars and carriages were set about, while, coloured electric lights blazed, and the American flag, kept inconstant motion by an electric fan, waved over all. The-back-ground and the floor was a mass of symmetrically arranged haberdashery

—buttons, pins, needles, hooks and eyes, etc. On Saturday evening tbe crowd was standing three deep in front of the window, and children had to be torn away from the wonderful sight. Another large window’ is apparently broken badly, the cracks spreading far and wide, while a placard offers .tlarge reward fot the arrest of the culprit. Lookiug closer, one notices the deception is skilfully carried out by means of lines of soap and bits of paper. In Kirkcaldie’s a haggard old woman with a birch rod sits in a huge shoe, surrounded by a multitude of dolls ; and it, is delightful to see the eager faces of the children peering in at the toys. If healthy rivalry be good for trade, its efforts are certainly most interesting to the public, and we shall watch eagerly the next new development.
