RIWAKA ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Friday last. Present: "Messrs Drummond (chairman), James, Fry, Pattie, Cook, and Holder. ' . The first business was the election of chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Pattie proposed that Mi Alexander Drummond be elected chairman. Seconded by Mr Cook. Mr Fiy, who was nominated by Mr Holder, declined to stand and Mr Drummond was therefore declared elected. In taking the chair, Mr Drummond expressed thanks, and said he would do his best for the district. They had worked well together in the past and he trusted the good feeling would continue. Minutes of previous meeting and also of special meeting, read and adopted. Mr R. Fry interviewed the Board with reference to the metal put on Little Sydney cart road, near Lowe’s. He also mentioned that the stray cattle on the roads were a great nuisance, which ought to be stamped out. The Chairman mentioned that they were unable to secure the services of a ranger. . Ct-rrespondence was received from Survey Department te section adjoining Crown lands, Kaiteriteri, etc. ; fr,oro the Marine Department forwarding lamp to replace the one destroyed • and requesting that it be placed in position ; also circular re poisoned grain. The tender of D. Goodall for contract A, Riwaka Valley road, was accepted, the prices being 38s per chain and 27s 6d for culverts. It was resolved that in future no money be spent unless ' authorised by the Board. Accounts amounting to £23 14s were payment. Resolved, on the motion of Mr James seconded by Mr Pattie, tnat application be made to the Waimea County Council for the grant of £5 promised for en larging the outlet of Little Sydney Creek ; also for the sum of £2 10s being half year’s salary" of ranger. Proposed by Mr Holder, seconded by Mr Fry, and carried, That W. Whitehorn’s tender for Brooklyn cart ~oad extension, at £2 19s per chain and culverts 10s 6d and 15s be accepted. This concluded the business.
