MOTUEKA MOUNTED RIFLES,

On Saturday afternoon the Motueka Mounted Rifles went into camp for one week on Mr Robert Staples' property. There are over 40 members under canvas, and Sergeant Major Healy js giving the corps useful instruction. A chuich parade was held on Sunday morning when there was a good muster. A sermon, suitable to the occasion was "preached by the Rev. Thomas Johnston in the church in High Street. At a meeting of the corps, held last evening Co-poral Waghorn was presented with the clock given by Messrs Brown and Kerr for the best score at 500 and 600 yards.

On Wednesday evening an open air concert will be held on the ground to which the public are cordially invited. As members of the corps and several well known residents have promised to contribute musical items, those who attend can depend upon spending a pleasant evening. The watering for the company is in the hands of Messrs Ryder Bros.

McFadven claim £26 Ss id, judgment was given for deiendant with costs £4 16s. The claim was to recover the price ot the erection of a r:inm and other additions to the defendant s house. The defendant stipulated that new timber should be used throughout and the evidence disclosed the fact that old timber had been put in. Defendants solicitor offered plaintiff the option of putting the work right, but he refused and judgment was given for defendant! the Magistrate upholding the contention or :the defence that the contract was one •indivisible contract, and that until the Wiiole contract was performed plaintiff could not sue.
