Messis Thompson Bros report asfollows : Apples, dessert, Cox's Orange pippins 7s 6d to 9s per case ; Ribston pippins, 6s 9d to 8s 6d ; Adams' Permain, 6s 6d to 8s ; large green cookers, 4s 9d to ss; coloured 3s 9d to 4s J quinces, 3s 9d to 4s ; pears, dessert! 5s 6d to 7s; cooking 4s to 5s ; peaches, choice dessert, 7s to 8s ; cookers 5s to 6s. Demand is good for everything.
It is understood that both the Licensed Victuallers party and the Prohibitionists refuse to nominate a licensing committee for the Kaiapoi district and that the duty of administering the Act will falj upon Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M„ who will have to close two out ot the eleven hotels in the electorate.

Wednesday's New Zealand Times says:—Yesterday the Chief Justice gave judgment in the action heard on the 4th and sth of last December, in which James Le.vis Bell, accountant, Wellington, sued Frederick Broadley Far-mar, flaxmiller, Auckland, and William Brown, merchant and auctioneer, Wellington, to recover the sum < f .£SOO with interest, claimed as a balance due on account of the sale of certain shares. The case was heard before a jury of twelve, who found upon eight issues submitted to them, and judgment was then deferred. On the findings of the jury his Honor held that the plaintiff was entitled to judgment against the defendant Brown for the sum of <£soo, with costs according to scale, witnesses' expenses and disbursements and ,£ls 1 5s for the second day ; no costs were given against; Farmar. °
The Christchurch Spectator says it believes that the amount of the bank draft presented to Mr Seddon there lately was about .£2OOO.
A monster cheese, to weigh half a ton, is to be made this month at Wyndham Dairy Factory to the order of the Otago A. arid P. Association, for the winter Show at Dunedin on 3rd June. It is to be studded with .£2O worth of coins of the realm.
According to "Reynold's Weekly." an exodus of several thousands of Boers to America "will take place about April or May next. The big trek is to be made to lands situated at Texas and New Mexico, in the United States, where, it is stated, nearly one million acres have been secured "for the emigrants by American capitalists, who take for security on their investment an issue of ten million bonds secured on the land, buildings, stock and crops to be raised by the new settlers. It is estimated that nine hundred Boer families will make the initial trip, including representatives of the houses of Steyn, Kruger, De Wet and Viljeon. According to recent returns, the expenses for 12 months in the detection of sly-grog selling in the colony amounted to ,£459 16s 7d, and rewards paid were .£285 2s 6d.
