A POWERFUL FARMERS' UNION

Chicago, January 23. ' *A movement is under way among the farmers of >the country toward forming a'gigantic union. All through the West hundreds of farmers' organisations are being formed, and tomorrow afternoon a- farmers' meeting will be held at Broadlands, Champaigne County, 111 , for the purpose of uniting the strength of that region. Farmers for miles around will journey towards Broadlands, and the preliminary measures will be adopted for the founding of their association; which it is expected .vill spread quickly all over the State. The farmeis believe the time has come for them to unite for their own protection: Their business is about the only great occupation that has been left to shift along individually, and farmers realise that they have too long been the butt of the monopolies. It is believed that the Farmers' Union, thoroughly entrenched, will be the strongest Association in the world, able to dictate absolutely to the trusts that now control the business of the world. Throughout Indiana, lowa, Nebraska Minnesota the movement toward organisation is being rapidly pushed. If 3,000,000 of western fanners can be brought into one great combine it is argued that they will possess a force that will have more power to regulate the commercial evils than all other influences combined. A movement toward uniting the various Farmers' Unions into a national body will soon be started.
