CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor. Sir,—l was pleased to see a letter in your issue of Tuesday last, signed W. J. ■ Moffatt,; and though agreeing with him as to the reclamation of the tidal flats of Motueka and the Moutere, still I think he is rather putting the cart before the horse. For the first thing, it seems to me, that is required is a Harbor Board elected direct by the people of the districts of Motueka, thereby representative of them, and the next is the extension of the wharf, so that steamers of the size of the Anchor Line car. come and go at any time within the twenty four hours. So soon as this is done, the reclamation of the tidal flats wi 1 soon be accomplished, as the wharf accimnodation, as I have shown it, will soon double the population of at least theborough of Motueka, and the business of the district, top. The fact of our now being connected with Wellington by regular direct steam communication should prove a splendid thin<* for us. It is like a weak boy being tected by a strong one, and again Wellington is the seac of government, and as itTs a growing shipping port, causes a want of a great deal of produce, and this district should do its best to supply it. This question of an elective Harbour Board is not one for the Borough of Motueka alone, but includes the districts surrounding it, for all should have a big interest and say in the administration of wharf affairs. Although some of my friends nry think my advocating of the above is a fad, as one ol your Riwakacorrespondents was pleased to write with regard to some of the things which I have suggested, yet it is strange seme have become facts, such for instance as direct steam communication with Wellington, a jam factory, a Harbor Board for the port of Motueka, a Borough Council with the hope that ere long it will be known as tne city of Motueka. Having seen these things become a reality, why not harbor accommodation, as I have stated above ? Thanking Mr Moffatt tor again bringing, this matter before the public, I am, etc., John A. Guy.
