—o — This popular function ■ took place on Wednesday evening, when there was a very good attendance of the public iroil) all parts of the district, including a number who journeyed overland, and pei- steamer, from Nelson. The arraiiijements made for the dancers were all that could be desired and the door of the hall was in fine order, making dancing a. pleasure. The majority wore evening cl:v,-s, hut some attractive and novel costumes w T ere to be seen, including those of Miss Manoy as “Buudie of Straw,” Miss if. Staples “Stars and stripes,” Miss R. Leslie “Crimson Rambler,” Messrs Pratt “Chinaman,’' E. Whitehorn “Brigand,” O. Chittenden “Artisan,” Fowler and Trolove “Troopers,” P. Rowling “Eastern costume.” Dancing was carried on with much spirit and the twenty six dances on the programme were got through by about half past two in the morning. Messrs Batchelor and Thorp acted as masters of ceremonies and discharged their onerous duties satisiacterily. The music was supplied by the Orchestral Society and voted to be first class by those who danced to their lively stiaius. Fxtra music was supplied by Misses Brougham, Johansen, and Fowler of Nelson. The supper provided was abundant and was considered to be one of the best ever laid out in the refreshment hall.
