i It willi be serin by a report published elsewhere? that the members of St ThriniasbChurch have agreed to take steps to build a new church and that at t the* meeting he)d on Wednesday last a r tram ber, of gentlemen gave substantial donations for the purpose; The present place of Worship has been in - use for many years arid the decision tp build another edifice is a step, in the, right direction. The sectiori of land on which the present building stands : : is worthy of a better and larger church and if the congregation will only take steps to beautify the grounds by the planting of ornamental trees and shrubs, they will have a plot of ground to be proud of in years to come, Puff Ping Pong is now in full blast throughout the Colony’ and a number of Motueka enthusiasts are “raising the wind’’in order to become skilful blowhards. The game is an exhaustone and leaves the players in a limp xamditiow.-- ; -It-is- eiUsQ wiA danger, for we hear that a popular life insurance agent, well known in Motueka, in pursing his mouth, broke a bloods vessel; when a canvasser, accustomed to blowing from early morn till dewy eve, meets with misfortune in playing this seemingly innocent game it is time for others to cry a halt. “Euroclydon” is a more appropriate name for the pastime.
Two notifications with reference to the Motueka Public Cemetery appear in our advertising columns. One is to the effect that as the cemetery is now vested in the Borough Council. Applications for allotments and all business in connection therewith must be transacted through the Town Clerk. Applications are invited for cutting down and removing some trees. The balance sheet is also published. A sitting of the Old Age Pension Court was held yesterday before Wilson'Heaps, Esq, when several cases were disposed of. A paragraph appeared some time ago to the effect that a half cast had walked about 18 miles in order to be piesent at a football meeting. This is a mere bagatelle to the performance of a young man named Galland who spent two and a half days travelling from the Oroixelles to Nelson in order to play for his club in the match Nelson College v. Riwaka. His side was victorious arid it is due to # Galland to state that he played a good game, thereby materially helping the team. The football match, Riwaka v. Nelson College, which was played at Trafalgar Park, Nelson, resulted in a win for the Riwaka boys, whose score was 25 points against their opponents of 6 points. The game was somewhat one sided, the form shown by the Riwaka teariq showing a decided improvement, the result being that the College boys were over matched almost from the start. Tries Were scored for Riwaka by E. Fry (2), P. Arnold (2), L. Ffangois, Reid and F. Fry; and W. Marshall kicked two goals. The College team was captained by Fell and that of Riwaka by F. Fry. The Referee was B. Richards ; the touch judge for Riwaka was A. Talbot. Had the same play been exhibited by the Riwaka Club during *the earlier part of. the season they would have had a much better chance for the Junior Cup.
