RIWAKA ROAD BOARD.
t The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Friday evening. Present. Messrs Bate, Drummond, Janiepi, Fry, Cook and Pattie. The Secretary occupied the chair and called for nominations for Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Bate was proposed by Mr Cook, and seconded by Mr Drummond ; Mr Fry by Mr Pattie and seconded by Mr James. The voting being equal, the secretary gave his casting vote in favor of the late chairman, Mr Bate. Minutes of previous meeting read and adopted. Mr R. McKenzie wrote asking the Board to forward application for grants for roads and bridges for 1902-3, same to be sent through the Waimea County Council. . It was resolved to apply for same grants as per schedule sent to the Chief Engineer for Roads. A contribution of £2 6s was received from Mr Best for repairs to Riwaka Valley road. The Chairman also offered to contribute 10s. Mr Fry objected to voting any more of the ratepayer’s money for repairs to the Riwaka Valley road, maintaining that the roa»,. benefited only a limited number of ratepayers. Mr J. F. McNab waited on the Board and asked for three reflectors for the lights at the entrance of the Riwaka River, the ones now in use having worn out. The Board authorised Mr McNab to procure the necessary number. On the motion of Mr-James-seconded by Mr Pattie, Messrs Fry and Drummond were empowered to sign the Board’s cheques. The following accounts were passed for payment :A. Askew L2 9s 6<l. W. Evans L2 Bs, J. McNab 3s 9d' Tridigaga 13s, R. Bate L2 16s, C. Aarnett, L2 2s, W. Hiekmott L 4 6s 3d, E. Tutbury Ll Is, T. Franklyn LI Is, W. Duncan L2 16 s H. N. Cook Ll Is, T. Cook L 7 7s, A. D. Woolf 15s, W. Cook Ll 16s, F. Blomfield ss, It was resolved to call for tenders for gravel for the new Mill load. Proposed by Mr Drummond, seconded by Mr Fry and carried, That the Board grant the sum of L2 towards cleaning out the Brooklyn creek, near the bridge, provided those interested place gravel on the road. A short discussion took place upon the question of bird poisoning and it was decided to procure six large bottles of Sha .v’s bird poison, and that upon receipt of same Messrs Bate and Fry prepare the wheat, to be distributed as soon as possible. The dayman was instructed to repair the Brooklyn road as soon as disengaged. This concluded the business.
