CROP REPORTS.
The April crop anti’ stock reports re ceived by the Department of Agriculture contain the following information : Auckland. —The month in the north and south, and on the west coast, has been a wet one, Qn the east coast the weather was good. In some districts the potato crop is slightly affected by grub. The maize crop promises to yield very heavily, and turnips and other root crops look well, Feed is abundant, and the health of stock is satisfactory. Hawke’s Bay.—Maize (in the Gisborne district) looks well ; crop hot harvested jet, Potatoes are turning out well and abundance of feed prevails. The weather has been very unsettled. Early frosts in some parts had checked vegetation. Taranaki.—Turnips and potatoes look well, and maize is a fair' crop. Feed is plentiful, and the health of the stock is good. Weather showery, but fairly good on whole. Wellington. — Root crops are very good, and the pasture in splendid order. The stock are healthy. The weather has been seasonable, hut the rainfall has been somewhat heavy. Nelson.—-The crops which have been threshed are yielding well ; but the potatoes are slightly damaged by wet. Feed is everywhere abundant. Stock are healthy. Weather very broken. Marlborough.—Considerable ai ea winter wheat sown. Turnips somewhat poor; potatoes medium crop. Feed looking well. Stock satisfactory. Weather fairly good, but early frosts have checked vegetation somewhat. Canterbury. —The wet weather has done considerable damage to the crops, and much of the grain will be discoloured. The potatoes have also been affected by the late heavy rains. Stock are rep aved to be'in fair condition and 1 ealtby. The feed is plentiful, but very watery. The weather des nob seem t;> have improved very much, being broken and unsettled. Otago. —In Waitaki the damage done to oats is not so heavy as was expected, but the wheat and bai ley ate somewhat seriously affected. Tl e heavy rains experienced during harvest have discoloured a portion of the grain; the estimated damage done up to the present cannot be calculated. In Southland the weather'does not appear to have been quite so wet. In many districts the potato crop has been affected. Feed is plentiful, but very soft and lacking substance. St ck a.e healthy.
