MR. F. PIRANI, M.H.R.
In the leading article dealing with the subject of Mr Pirani's retirement from political life, the Dunedin Star —an Opposition paper—says :—We are disposed to think that "he never will be-missed." He has been a member for nearly nine years, and beyond being a voluble speaker, with no prejudices in regard to eitheir matter or •manlier, has in no respect been notable. The honourable gentleman was one of that select party of political Ishmaelites known as the Left Wing, who had a great idea- of themselves collectively and individually, but were regarded with contemptous amusement by the Government and unconcealed aversion by the Opposition, who rejectd their overtures, and would have nothing to do with them. Their attempt at creating a Third Party in the | House, who would be able to exercise appreciable influence, failed altogether, and they subsided into a spiteful little clique, very spiteful against Mr Seddon, and became adepts at making themselves disagreeable on all possible occasions, endeavouring to embrass the Treasures in his finance without even the most forlorn hope of defeating his policy. ...
