A meeting is called by his Worship the Mayor, Mr R. Hursthouse, for to-morrow, Wednesday, evening to consider the question of presenting the Premier with a testimonial prior to his departure for England to be present at the coronation of His Majesty King Edward. The meeting is fixed lor eight o’clock in the Council room. ‘ As showing the interest the member of Motueka, Mr Roderick McKenzie,, takes in his constituency, .ve may state that in response to an invitation from a leading fruit grower in the Riwaka district, that gentleman made a special trip to Motueka in order to be present at the meeting held on Saturday evening to discuss the direct steaih service question. Mr McKenzie’s remarks were listened to with attention and we feel sure, whilst in Wellington this week, he will do his best to further the interests of shippexs in this locality. Just before the close of the meeting on Saturday night, Mr Roderick Me Kenzie suggested the amalgamation of the Farmers’ and Fruitgrowers’ Union, in view of the fact that the interests of both bodies were identical, and that the members of one Union belonged to the other. The hint thrown out is worth considering. For the information of a number of persons who have expressed doubt as to whether Mr McKenzie will address the electors in this district before the next session of Parliament, we may say we have that gentleman’s authority for stating that he will follow his usual custom and give an account of his stewardship at an early date. The following are the vital statistics for Motueka district, for the month of February, as recorded by Mr H. A. Tarrant, the Registrar:—births 3, death 1, marriages nil. *** Subscription to the MOTUEKA STA R : —Three Shillings and Sixpence a Quarter, which may begin at anv time %
