LOWER MOUTERE.
A meeting was held in the Jubilee Hall, Lower Moutere, on Thursday evening relative to the establishment of a butter factory in the Moutere "Valley. There was a large number of farmers present, also Mr Manoy of Motueka and Mr Wilkens, representing Mr Moore of Flaxmere, Upper Moutere.
Mr Easton was voted to the chair
The Committee appointed at a previous meeting reported the guarantee of more than the required number of cows, and certain proposals were submitted from Mr Moore through Mr Manoy, by which the factory would be erected on the farm at Flaxmere, adjacent to the main road This proposal, with other relative matter, was fully considered, and it was unanimously decided to fall in with Mr Moore's proposals. The cows being guaranteed, Mr Wilkens, on behalf of Mr Moore' promised that the selection of a site, and the erection of the factory etc., would be proceeded with forthwith. It is understood that the factory will commence work on the first of next October.
Our Moutere friends are to be congratulated on the erection of such a factory, as our small farmers can in no wise compete in the growing of grain with the holders of large areas, the only way they can save themselves is in the working of such factories as is proposed. We trust, indeed we have no doubt, that the inauguration of this scheme will be of substantial benefit to the Moutere settlers.
