THE YACHT NGARU.
MR F. W. THORP’S NEW CRAFT. The oil yacht Ngaru, lately puichased by Mr F. W. Thorp, arrived at the Motueka Wharf last Sunday afternoon. She is a handsome little vessel, and Mr Thorp is to be congratulated upon his purchase The well known firm of Logan Brothers, of Auckland built the Ngaru, which is fitted up with three roomy cabins, there being ample space for eight berths. Her dimensions are 45ft x 9ft and she has a draft of 4ft. The large engine room contains a 20 li.p. engine, from the works of Messrs Henderson and Co., Auckland, which gives her a speed of 9 and 10 knots. The little craft was brought from Auckland to Wellington in the Eiingamite, from which place Mr Thorp, accompanied by Messrs H. Deck and C. Morse, navigated her to our port. A short account of the voyagec will, 1 we feel sure, prove of interest to oui Traders. The Ngaru left Wellington at 5 p.m. on Thursday, the 13th instant, proceeding to Worser Bay, where she anchored for the night ; left again the next morning at 7.30, crossed the Straits and arrived in Waihenau Bay, Pelorus Sound, that afternoon, taking shelter there from a hard N.E. gale. She left again on Saturday afternoon, arriving at the French Pass the same evening and steamed through against the tide, but upon this side she fell in with a heavy S.W. wind and sea, which forced her to put into Waicarvvar for the night. She left there following morning at 9 o’clock arriving in Motueka at 2.10 pm. on Sunday.
